Social Security Attorney:
Social Security Appeals
Serving Chattanooga, Tennessee
The Social Security Administration (SSA) is dedicated to making sure that its every decision on providing benefits is absolutely correct. If you are not happy with the decision of the SSA on your filing, they provide four levels of appeal:
- Reconsideration - In this case the file is looked at by someone other than the original caseworker. New evidence may be submitted prior to the reconsideration.
- Hearing - If the reconsideration does not provide a satisfactory settlement, a hearing will be conducted by an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ).
- Appeals Council - If the ALJ does not provide a satisfactory settlement, you can take the case to the appeals council, which may issue a decision, remand the case to the ALJ, or allow the decision to stand.
- Federal Court Review - If the Appeals Council's decision is unsatisfactory, it is possible to file a civil suit against the SSA in Federal District Court.
